Gutters Do More Work Than You Think

A properly designed gutter system is your home's first line of defense against foundation damage, fascia rot, and landscape erosion. When gutters fail - through clogging, bad pitch, or undersizing - water saturates soil against the foundation and backs up at the eaves. Commit Roofing sizes every system based on your specific roof area and DFW's rainfall intensity, not a generic standard.

Seamless Gutters - The Only Kind We Install

Sectional gutters join every 10 feet with slip joints that eventually leak. Seamless gutters are formed on-site from a single coil of metal, with joints only at corners and downspout outlets - eliminating the primary failure point. We install 5" and 6" K-style in .032" aluminum (heavier than standard, more dent-resistant), copper for premium applications in Plano, Frisco, and North Dallas neighborhoods, and steel for commercial use.

Gutter Guards

DFW's live oaks, cedar elms, and pecans create heavy debris loads. Micro-mesh guards (LeafFilter, Mastershield, Raptor) are the top performers - fine stainless mesh blocks virtually everything while passing water freely, reducing cleaning from twice-annual to once every two to three years. Screen guards work for light debris environments. We do not recommend foam inserts, which degrade quickly in Texas heat and end up harder to clean than bare gutters.

Downspouts and Drainage

An undersized or poorly placed downspout is as bad as no downspout. We calculate the required count and sizing for your roof's drainage area, position discharge points to direct water away from the foundation, and can connect to underground drainage where needed. Before any installation, we inspect and replace any rotted fascia board - gutters attached to bad wood won't last.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size gutters do I need for my home in the Dallas area?
For most residential homes in the DFW area, 5-inch K-style gutters are appropriate for standard roof sections, while 6-inch K-style is recommended for larger drainage areas, steeper roofs, or homes with minimal downspout count. The calculation is based on roof drainage area, roof pitch, and local rainfall intensity. We always size gutters based on your specific roof geometry rather than defaulting to a single standard - undersized gutters that overflow during heavy DFW storms defeat their entire purpose.
Are gutter guards worth the cost in the DFW area?
For most DFW homeowners, yes - particularly micro-mesh style guards. DFW's combination of live oaks, cedar elms, and other deciduous trees creates substantial debris loads, and clogged gutters are one of the most common sources of preventable home water damage. A quality micro-mesh guard system costs more upfront than screening options but dramatically outperforms them and reduces cleaning frequency from twice annually to once every two or three years. The labor and convenience savings over 10 years typically justify the investment for most homeowners.
How do I know if my gutters are causing foundation problems?
Signs that your gutters may be contributing to foundation stress include visible cracks in brick mortar or exterior stucco near grade, doors or windows that have begun sticking or are difficult to open, and visible soil erosion or pooling directly adjacent to the foundation after rain events. If you notice any of these, it warrants a professional evaluation of both your drainage system and your foundation. Properly functioning gutters that discharge water 3–5 feet from the foundation are a fundamental requirement for protecting your home's structural integrity.
Can you repair my existing gutters, or do I need a full replacement?
Many gutter issues - a leaking seam, a section that has separated from the fascia, a single dented downspout - are repairable at modest cost. We assess the overall condition of your existing gutters as part of any service call and give you an honest recommendation. If the gutters are sectional and approaching 15–20 years old with multiple failing seams, replacement with a new seamless system usually provides better long-term value than ongoing patchwork repairs. We present both options clearly so you can make an informed choice.
How often should gutters be cleaned in the Dallas–Fort Worth area?
For most homes in DFW with moderate tree coverage and no gutter guards, we recommend professional cleaning twice per year - spring and fall. Spring cleaning addresses seed pod and pollen accumulation from DFW's abundant live oaks and other trees, while fall cleaning handles leaf drop. Homes with heavy overhead tree coverage or downspouts that run underground (where a clog is more consequential) may benefit from a third cleaning in midsummer. Installing quality micro-mesh gutter guards can extend the interval between cleanings to every two to three years.
